Hello everyone,
As I'm slowly re-entering the flow of RP from my forced hiatus (my harasser seems to have disappeared. Maybe they found that thread..), I have become more active in the RP sessions with my LS. Currently, our brave heroes are dealing with a crystal thief that stole one of our stones in Gridania and is now hiding around Ul'dah.
Our group RPs moving from a different region to another with a rather realistic approach. We make kind of a big deal when it comes to, say as in this case, moving from Gridania to Ul'dah. The journeys come with days of preparing and packing, and the stay in the new place is long before we'll be again financially able to afford moving out again.
So, obviously, our characters need to be prepared to endure the weather differences, and as such should try their best to be properly clothed for the occasion.
So this is where this thread comes in. I'm looking for suggestions for equipment combos for ethnic clothing, namely this time around, Ul'dahn attire (though if you want, feel free to post attires you've made up for other regions too).
Keep a couple things in mind:
- I'd like my character to not stand out from the regular Ul'dahn NPCs, so let us try  to come up with ideas that do not involve super exotic and unique looking pieces out there;Â
- This thread should be of some help not only to myself, but to whoever wishes to RP a local, so keep budget in mind (yes, I'm talking about those lv1 gear pieces that gods know when I will ever be able to afford...);
- Ethnic clothing is something that should be practical and have a purpose in its choices, so don't go just by taste and good-looks. Think of the weather, the landscape of the region, the type of roads and what shoes would be most practical to use, as well as the average climate of the region to decide what piece of gear would best suit a local of the chosen region.
So, yes. Let the show off begin! Post screenshots, and write down the list of pieces shown there (and if you can, write next to them where/how to get them, or average price if they're crafted).
This is what I was able to come up with:
Head: Hempen Bandana (Lv5, crafted and cheap): The bandana comes useful to collect long hairstyles, reducing sweating, as well as saving your hair from collecting too much of the dust and sand of Thanalan's storms.
Body: Toadskin Jerkin (lv29, crafted. Moderately priced.): Made off of the skins of the toads that lurk in Thanalan's creeks, this piece is light enough to not make the wearer feel too warm, while at the same time offering average protection against the thorns of bushes that can be found out of town, as well as superficial attacks of small creatures. Not recommended for fighting.
Hands: X
Legs: Acoltye's Skirt (Lv15 Dungeons, must be mage class to Need): The leather that composes this skirt is sturdy enough to endure the harsh climate of Thanalan while keeping legs free of movement. It comes with calf-high leggings that grant moderate protection from sharp rocks and overzealous snakes that may be lurking in the tall grass.
Feet: Duckbills (There are several at any level.): A general type of leather footwear with flexible but endurable soles. It is not recommended to walk inside a river, but thankfully there are not that many of those in Thanalan.

To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.
"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." -- N.C.
