Hello!

I'm slowly but surely entering into the world of crafting. Got Weaver to 50, and currently working on getting all the classes to 15 (should have done that first). I know the different DoH and DoL classes help each other out. I read some people level several together at once, but I'm not sure if that would work for me. Blush

I wondered:
  • Is there any particular order that's best to level them in to 50?
  • Which cross-class abilities do you use the most; should I aim for them first?
Or, any general tips would be appreciated! I might post further questions on this thread, I hope that's alright. Tongue

Edit: I updated with some new questions. Thank you to everyone for the feedback!

Personally I'd do Alchemy and Culinarian next Smile You get Tricks of the Trade and Steady Hand 2 which can both help with HQing items for other classes.

Also: Food and FC buffs go a long, long way!

The reason the different classes help each other out is because of cross-class skills. You may have noticed (or not) that certain skills (namely, the level 16, 37 and 50 skills) are different for every class. These are the skills you can cross-class. Each DoH class you max out to 50 grants you more possibilities for easier HQing.

Basically, what I suggest is getting everything to 15. Culinarian to 37. Carpenter to 50 and then any order whatsoever.

A way to get your exp in for your crafting classes is doing the grand company turnins. Look at whats needed for them and you can either craft them (exp!) or buy the items. You especially want HQ items if the turn in has a star next to it as it will give you major bonus. You could aim for HQ all turnins but it's not always possible or you might find it too time consuming but turnins are basically how I got a majority of my crafts their levels (and gathering classes!).

(Other than when i got bored and bought a crafterto50inabox)

Thank you all!
Thankfully I've just finished Culinarian to 15 and have Goldsmith left. Will work on CUL to 37 as suggested! Always forget about GC turn ins, cheers for the tip. Smile

The reason you want HQ everything on turn-ins is that they effectively DOUBLE the XP reward. So, on the Star one... it's a massive bonus. Enough to bypass at least one or two leves.

EDIT : Stuff that's coming to me as I remember it -

1. Don't hesitate to cross class skills. Steady Hand 2 and Hasty Touch are the most important I'd say. 80% chance to raise quality without spending CP is better than 70%, especially for just an extra 3 CP on Steady Hand 2.
2. Each 5 levels you get an extra cross-class slot - Use it! Personally this is what I got (adjust for classes that already have these skills - I'm assuming you don't have 50 CRP and 50 ALC 'cause those I'd say Comfort Zone and Byregot's Blessing instead)
Level 15 - Steady Hand 2, Hasty Touch, Tricks of the Trade
Level 20 - Rumination
Level 25 - Manipulation

From there, I think you're gravy since those are the most important while grinding up some crafts.

This. [Although personally, I do Manipulation before Rumination.]

Definitely get Cul to 37. Then I'd do GSM next. Then you get a skill called Innovation which I looooove using.

"Innovation: +50% control for three steps is exactly as good as it sounds. For 18CP, this is huge bang for your buck. If you only succeed basic touch three times, this skill already paid for itself, and more."

I didn't consider innovation because IIRC GSM was one of the last ones I capped but yeah - Innovation strats might be good for leveling.

I've been slowly plugging my way through Armorer as I wait for my leve's to reload. My rotation for crafting is:

Inner Quiet
[Tricks of the Trade, if it popped]
Steady Hand II
[Tricks of the Trade, if it popped]
Waste Not
Innovation
Hasty Touch x3
[Tricks of the Trade, if it popped]
Great Strides [If the class has enough cp at that level/eq to be able to afford it, AND still afford Manipulation later]
Hasty Touch x2 [or 3 if there's more than 40 base durability]
[Tricks of the Trade, if it popped]
Manipulation
[Tricks of the Trade, if it popped]
Waste Not
Hasty Touch [As many times as necessary, likely no more than 4]
And then Standard Synthesis, or Careful Synthesis, or Basic Synthesis, depending on what is available for the class/level.

Manipulation can be replaced with Master's Mend, but that costs a tiny bit more. >.> XD

It's +4 CP.

Hardly a dealbreaker.

Also, by leveling all the crafts at the same time you'll be able to craft your own crafting gear. A fair boon as if you keep updated you'll certainly reap the benefits of easier HQs and thus faster leveling.

I've had times where I'm 2 cp short of a waste not.  4 can come in handy.  XD

Hello! Congratulations on 50 Weaver! Definitely getting the rest of your crafters to 15, Culinarian to 37, and Carpenter to 50 will really help you, so that's great! Then from there, level up in whatever order suits your needs.

Personally, I found that leveling up all your classes simultaneously through daily Grand Company turn-ins and Ixali Beastmen quests is really beneficial while you concentrate on one crafter with Levequests. This takes some pressure off in the long run, and it helps since many recipes use ingredients crafted by other crafters. You can even just buy the turn-in item off the market if it's convenient/cheap. Remember, turning in HQ items nets more experience, and eating food can help too! Your Grand Company also sells Engineering Manuals for crafting experience.

Doing Botany and Mining Grand Company turn-ins is also nice, since it means less spending gil on materials as you are able to gather more things! This also means you can make Botany/Mining retainers, which are nice when you're too lazy to go gather more materials or crystals.

For cross-class skills, I think it really depends on what your end goal is. At level 50, you can get away with HQing 2-star recipes with only level 15 cross skills. But if you plan to go for 3-stars, Byregot's Blessing, Steady Hand 2, Ingenuity 2, Careful Synthesis 2, and Comfort Zone save you a lot of trouble. Innovation is a good skill, but I wouldn't say it is essential until getting 4-star. Piece by Piece and Reclaim see much more use when you aim to go to 4-star. Waste Not 2 isn't particularly useful compared to the others.

I found it helpful to get Leatherworker, Weaver, Goldsmith, and Blacksmith up just because you can craft/meld most of your own crafting gear (and sell it for gil!). Goldsmith and Leatherworker also help for desynthesis.

This is a pretty comprehensive, although long, crafting guide for everything up to 4 star, which I found particularly helpful. This reddit thread, this thread, and this thread also have some good tips, and are a shorter read.

Good luck, and happy crafting!

Might be that - I never used Waste Not to level except on Leatherworker since that's a free slot.

Thank you all for your help, it has been greatly appreciated! Smile

New questions!

I've nearly finished leveling everything, just have ALC and ARM to go. A kind friend has helped me get my BiS accessories too.

I wondered what my next step is? I've read a few guides, and wondered if this is still accurate when it comes to melding?

I thought I'd see which item for turn-ins is cheapest to make and work on that for Artisan's Gear. Is that a good move or completely the wrong way to go about things? D:

Thanks for reading. Smile

The link doesn't work for me, but I've used FFXIVguilds' leveling and melding guides on Chachan and they seem to work fine for me. So you should be fine there? I mean, I wasn't even fully melded and I managed to make my Vulcan Lucis! And, when in doubt, you can always look up on the MB and see if people have melded gear up for sale - usually they're melded in the "proper" way or close enough to draw ideas from (or just straight up buy if you have the cash monies).

As for the Artisan gear, are you talking about the ones you purchase with the crafting turnins or the craftable one with the materia slots? I ask because a HQ set of the latter is technically "better" overall (though you'll still want the Glasses since there's no equivalent craftable headpiece!), but the former is apparently good if you don't want to sink all that gil into materia and possible failed melds.

I... just sorta bought most of the HQ craftable gear already melded, and then did the rest with myself. So the only non-meldable piece I got was the glasses, which I got just making the token for the class I was trying to get my Lucis on (BSM, in this case). I vaguely remember someone mentioning at one point that the CUL token was the easiest to make, but I could have totally misheard or misremembered since that was ages ago. I didn't have any particular issue with the BSM token, though, since you don't even need to HQ it.

Um... hope that helps. Blush
