I always get lost everywhere <.<
But yeah, it doesn't really make a huge difference, it's relatively easy to get from one city to the other, and when you've done it once, you can teleport between them. So I say, pick what you feel most like
Which ever seem to be more interesting, or fit your character best. That's how I did it. I was originally going to start in Limsa, but Ul'dah was just perfect for Seraj. However, I still spend a good amount of time in Limsa, and I'm hoping to get to Gridania more as well.
But yeah, really, it doesn't matter terribly much.
