Re: Dangerous development - Kashemia - 08-21-2010

Meh, seems to be just another whiny post, there's thousands of them, and this one really doesn't add anything new. I don't see what it has to do with roleplaying a specific class though.

I chose not to listen to the nagive voices. Sure, there are things that need fixing, but people tend to be insanely negative, not just around this game, but in general. I'm gonna have my fun, no matter what they say anyway.

Re: Dangerous development - ArmachiA - 08-21-2010

Ohh, it's just some guy whining about the 48-hour cooldown. I thought that SE was planning on actually punishing RPers, don't scare me like that!

Re: Dangerous development - Tagyr - 08-21-2010

Sheesh, scared the spirit out of me there. But it is just another whine post which has attracted the trolls and someone mentioning how it apparently annoys RPers at the very end (in sarcasm).

Re: Dangerous development - Kylin - 08-21-2010

There are going to be a lot of those types of posts in the next month or so. It's pretty natural for all new MMO's be criticized as much as possible before they launch and shortly thereafter. Does the game have some issues? Yes. Are they as game breaking as so many are saying? No. People just like to whine when nothing goes their way. I'd go so far as to say not to bother visiting any other major fan sites for the next month or two as not see the cesspool of endless complaining. Within a month after launch, most of the whiners will move on to the next shiny MMO and leave the rest of the community to do its thing. Will some of those who jump ship be role-players? Probably, as sad as that is. But it happens. No such thing as a perfect game after all.

A tremendous amount of the people complaining have clearly not played FFXI for a long period of time. Those who have probably won't have too much difficulty adjusting to the new game.

Overall, I'd say not to worry. While this game may not gain 1 million+ subscribers (and probably not even 500K initially), it will hold its own player base no doubt for years to come (see FFXI--still a successful game even after all this time and despite negative Western reviews.)

Re: Dangerous development - Vareal - 08-21-2010

Honestly, I kinda started to have a down-ward opinion on Square when they merged with Enix. Both companies on their own had awesome games (Valkyrie Profile FTWx10000000) But now it just seems they put out more remakes than anything else. And most of their characters look the same. But, that doesn't deter me from playing the next Final Fantasy!

(and yes, I am well aware that all of Enix's game's were published by Squaresoft)

Oh yeah, FFXIV. I can't really complain because I haven't played the game. The only thing I see that I might not like is this 48 hour cool down on the, whatever it is. I don't really know what that is, but a 48 hr cool down seems a bit much.

Can't wait for the next Valkyrie Profile! They left the most awesome Valkyrie for last! Hrist. And we'll get her in all the PS3-goodness glory of AWESOME! Smile

Re: Dangerous development - Asyria - 08-21-2010

Oooohhhh Valkyrie Profile on ps3!
I still can't get over having never played the first game on ps1 but I got the PsP and Ps2 ones, at least. ^^

But.. yeah. Let's leave the whining, bitching and complaining to the mainstream websites and keep our community free of all that negativity, shall we?

Re: Dangerous development - Asyria - 08-21-2010

I don't think it will even be -that- bad to just have one class. The way I understand it, it's more like keeping people from grinding their way to the top in a week, like people do in WoW nowadays. Possibly, they want to make paid powerleveling services obsolete, which is a GOOD thing.
I just wish they'd use positive reinforcement (like making leveling multiple classes easier, like giving us the ability to make class templates so we don't have to reset our abilities every time) instead of negative reinforcement (like they do now, by just making it harder to level with a single class).

Re: Dangerous development - Ellia Thorn - 08-21-2010

Just to clear things up, since I think many of you might not know what he's really complaining about. It's not just the 48 hour cooldown on guild leves. What the rage is about is the "Surplus" system in which, after an unknown amount of time playing the same class, you stop getting xp and items to prevent that class from growing. Forcing you to do something else while you wait. So far my friends in the beta have said the cool down is insanely long, (one has been waiting two days and still can't use the same job). Hopefully SE knows what their doing, but so far it's looking like "This is how you have to play the game" and their not leaving a whole lot of freedom up to us in that regard. In short, their making it so you can play the job you want for a long period of time, so that people who don't have much time, don't fall behind. While not the end of the world, I think it's a pretty bad move on SE's part.

Edit: It looks like Asyria kind of already said it, but from looking at peoples response, it felt like they were targeting the guy's rant on the 48 hour cooldown thing, not the Surplus system.

Re: Dangerous development - Kashemia - 08-21-2010

Oh, I didn't really know about the surplus thing. I agree that it might not be the best move, but it still doesn't change the fact that this post is just one more person whining without adding much constructive criticism. Those types are dangerous to listen to, because they can easily make a decent game sound horrible.

And while it does take away some freedom, I agree with Asyria. And I don't think it's in any way gamebreaking, it's just another thing you have to get used to and figure out how to make work best for you.

Re: Dangerous development - ArmachiA - 08-21-2010

The surplus will barely affect RPers, as we will be Roleplaying and not poopsocking Wink

Wait.. What? Is that an actual expression? If so, I SO have to learn what that means so I can use it <.<

Re: Dangerous development - Averis - 08-21-2010

Ha, that's a new one for me too. I don't go back far enough to the EQ days to have ever heard of it I guess. (Started MMOs with AO)
