Re: Questions of Race Anyone? - Trizzip - 08-31-2010

In my FFXI experiance, females who were actually real females usually rolled Female Hume or Elvaan. I've never met too many females that rolled as male characters (although, I wouldn't blame them if they are trying to escape weirdos from hitting on them).

I remember cat girls were in quite a surplus in XI so I wouldn't be suprised if that was the case once again in 14. In fact.....let me see if I can find the old FFXI census stats.

Re: Questions of Race Anyone? - Kashemia - 08-31-2010

One thing I've always thought was sort of funny is that people seem to be sort of split in two: Either you hit on female chars, believing them all to be actual girls, or you think all female chars are guy because there obviously are no female gamers. I think even on this forum (maybe even in this thread?), someone said "I'm gonna assume that all Miqo'te are males until proven otherwise". That is sort of funny to me, since it seems like quite a lot of the Miqo'te players are are female, myself included.

One thing that has always annoyed me a bit though, is the idea that a girl playing a female char must mean that it will be an extremely girly and cutesy character, and that girls playing male chars are cooler, because they don't want said cute character. Not all girls are obsessed with being cute Tongue

It's a rule of the internet. If someone online says they are female then they are not until proven otherwise.

Re: Questions of Race Anyone? - falcolas - 08-31-2010

This tangent leads me to the question... What does it really matter who is behind the keys?

If it's a female character, and we are roleplaying, my character is going to treat them as female (including potentially flirting with them). That's why it's roleplaying.

In my experience, if your actions are driven according to the person behind the keyboard rather than the character... it's generally going to lead to drama and cause nothing but problems. I've been bitten by this a few times in the past, so I've simply come to the conclusion that it just doesn't matter who is behind the keys. Grandma or Grandpa, Fat Albert or Pauley Perrette; IC is IC, and OOC is OOC.

Heh about the importance of who's behind the keyboard, like a wise man once said... In Shakespeare's days, all female roles on stage were done by men. If it was good enough for him, it's good enough for you.

Amen! This is probably why your RP will be made of awesome. :approve:

The whole point is NOT to be yourself (unless you want to see how your own persona would mesh with a bunch of pretenders). That's why I tend to shy away from "RL picture" threads, Facebook, and such. The illusion, at least for me, is the whole point.

High expectations... :o Would that I can live up to them. Big Grin

That would be moi. I DO know that there are females on the internet. However, it's safer to be cautious, because there ARE guys who will pretend to be females (IRL). I have seen many guys burned by this.

So when I say, 'I will consider you a guy', I mean 'I will never EVER flirt in any way what so ever with anyone on the internet until it is confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person is 'in fact' a female'.

The answer to your question is, 'no it does not matter who is behind the keys' (as long as you're not trying to get all flirty). When it comes to friendships, I don't care if you are a guy or a girl. When it comes to RP, I don't care either. In fact......I am comfortable sharing this little tidbit with you folks (since we're in the circle of trust right?). My character in FFXI (RP wise) had a relationship with a mithra who was played by a guy. Our characters ended up getting married and even having a baby. No, we never RP'd anything sexually detailed (even if you are a female, I leave that stuff out because there is no need for it. It's much more appropriate to just 'fade to black') When we spoke online in OOC, we were just two friends who were guys and we wouldn't even really talk about our characters at all. When IC, it was all different. In fact, I wouldn't mind RP'ing a female (if I didn't have such an attachment to my 'Brin' character)

I RP a Miqote and a Guy. Langli is fun and Daej is a dumbass.

Love em both XD

Re: Questions of Race Anyone? - Noelle - 08-31-2010

I'm glad to be reading that a lot of you are really quite mature and grown up about a lot of things. Makes me glad I joined this place.

Brin,
sounds like you had a really good thing going on with that friend of yours!
It'd be nice if all gamers could be more like you!

Y'know, playing games for fun.

Re: Questions of Race Anyone? - ArmachiA - 08-31-2010

Smile I'm just a man who loves the art of RP. In fact, I appreciate it in the same regards that I appreciate true 'stage acting', drawing, painting, etc. When I have the money, I love going to the theater and watching beautiful performances.

Which sort of theater do you prefer? I understand a love for them all, but everybody loves certain kinds of theater more then others.
