I've heard good things about the Fire Emblem games though I've never gotten around to playing any of them myself.

Pretty much this. I made the kids beast and they all, almost all of them, have double movement and enemies GET REKCT

Fire Emblem is a very long series of turn based strategy games. The game YOU are thinking of is Fire Blade.
