ICly he used to be a lancer who worked as a harpooner on whaling ships, volunteered to help fight the Garlean empire, and ended up so traumatized by the calamity he can't bring himself to pick up a spear again. So what's a guy to do when he's only really good at stabbing things? He starts making a living punching things. No Gods and Precious Few Heroes
