Cannot blame you. Figuring out lore is sometimes a pain in the butt in this game, especially when you are new to the scene. Lore in leves, job quests, obscure sidequests, fates ect x_X It is sometimes really a pain to figure everything out.
I'm just really happy I played the game a long while before I started to roleplay myself, so I had plenty of time to soak in the information. It is a shame there is no wiki, but people here on the RPC are happy enough to help people out with these little things!
That said, it is great to see more Ala Mhigans around! Virella might dislike them (despite being together with one in secrecy), but I love seeing them roleplayed!
Edit: If you are ever up for some roleplay, I'm totally game for it! I admit, tomorrow evening I am stuffed with some event already, but besides that, I got nothing planned
