So this took a while.  But it was fun!   The problem of having a shifty neutral character arises yet again.

Xavarian Mystrife

Rating Scale:
1 - 10. 1 as complete Sin. 10 as complete Virtue. 4 near the middle, closer to the Sin. 5 near the middle closer to the Virtue.

Lust vs Chasity: 2.5

Show Content
SpoilerI imagine that those that have met Xavarian might find this somewhat strange, considering his general demeanor, but when Lust is put outside of a purely sexual spectrum, he falls hard and fast on that scale.  His desires for both Knowledge and Power are near insatiable, and the former being what he strives for every moment he can, in almost any form he can get it; even to the point of potential harm to his person (... which he would just consider 'a lesson learned', and still a partial success).  He would not be pleased with anything attempting to get in his way or stop him from getting what he considers Knowledge, and puts very few bounds on the notion.  But despite it being 'insatiable', it isn't in the Envy category either, purely because every time he gets a bit of what he desires, he finds pleasure in it.  He isn't upset he'll never have it all; that merely makes him want it more.

The only reason this isn't lower still is because he refrains from a number of other things he might want to do, for 'logical reasons'.  He has his goals, and they come first, so if these other things might hamper his goals, he abstains from the 'lesser desires'.  In terms of sex, though, he's... never really had to deal with it as a likely possibility yet.  Not that he ever seriously thinks about it either.

Gluttony vs Temperance: 5

Show Content
SpoilerCurrently, Xavarian exercises quite a bit of restraint in some areas, next to none in others, and nearly all of it is for himself.  It's not for a sense of justice, but rather what he holds in high regard, realizing that no other may think the same way, and really doesn't care either way whether they agree or not.  However, despite this, he also realizes that to be in the good graces of anyone else, he's going to need to keep in their spectrum of 'appropriate', and though he does try hard to figure out where this is, at times he falls short.  Other times he throws it to the wayside.  But considering Gluttony, he barely ever over-indulges in what he would consider 'excess'... though to him, every action is something useful gained; why would that ever be an excess~?

Greed vs Charity: 5

Show Content
SpoilerRight in the middle, but on the giving side, as this can go pretty far either way.  On the one hand, Xavarian has a great desire for a few material things (mostly what would give him either Knowledge or Power).  But beyond those few things he wants, he could care less.   He's hardly had to worry about the monetary, though, that has always been around or obtainable for someone in his position, so who knows if this would change if his situation did.

On the other hand, Xavarian, while feeling absolutely no obligation to others unless they strike certain chords with him, once those chords are hit, he will try to give any number of things he thinks they would find useful, should the person accept them.  His charity is extremely situational.  Though, once he learns there is something he can give someone he's decided to care about that they'd enjoy, he takes great pleasure in being able to give it to them.  And always enjoys giving Knowledge for Knowledge gained.

Sloth vs Diligence: 9

Show Content
SpoilerXavarian would be hard pressed to be found not doing something, if he's conscious.  While his aims and interests may be odd, or sometimes seen as frivolous, Xavarian is absolutely diligent in nearly everything he does, almost all of the time.  When he isn't, he's likely speculating some off possibility somewhere that eventually will lead him back to his goals, so nothing wrong there (or so he'd say).  He believes that any chance given should be a chance taken when one has a goal, to squander it would be a terrible thing, and Xavarian himself has a goal to which he sees no end.  He'll only have so much time to do what he wants to do, so there really isn't a moment to waste, or room to let something slip by.  What if that one thing that someone said turns out to be the key factor in a very important endeavor?  Best to take it down now~  Best to take everything down now.

Furthermore, 'giving up' is simply not an option.  There is always another possibility, you just have to find it, and you can't find it unless you're actually looking~

Wrath vs Patience: 6

Show Content
SpoilerXavarian strives to be patient, and generally is pretty good at it.  He's rather accepting, and often non-judgmental of others, letting a number of things roll off him as though they were nothing.  For the most part, he stays about here.  He rarely succumbs to anger, even less-so the uncontrolled sort, but when he does, he wants something done about it; either knowledge to diffuse it, or a plot of action for when the time is right.  Which occasionally, is immediately.

Envy vs Kindness: 8

Show Content
SpoilerXavarian, while he often feels no obligations to others, is generally kind to them.  He does so without expecting anything back, and merely enjoys the thought that people are not always what one can ever expect, that everyone has something to offer, and why not be nice?  He's very optimistic and generally cheerful or excited when someone wants to speak with him.  However, he may flip on a moments notice the moment someone he's kind to attempts to restrict him in a way he doesn't agree with.

Pride vs Humility: 8

Show Content
SpoilerThis is a ridiculous question.  Honestly, he has both, by the definitions given.  I was going to put a range, but I suppose overall, his humbleness trumps his 'pride' more often than not.  But that's mostly because no one seems to get in his way, basically ever.  ... Which is just as he likes it, I guess.

Xavarian puts his desires first.  Be them for good or ill, he doesn't care if you agree with him or not, he's going to do what he ultimately wants to do, and that's that.  Try to stop him if you can.  You probably won't succeed, unless you lay him out cold, kill him, or break all his limbs, because he's never about to give up, and how dare you think that you can get between him and his goals?  That is his pride. It's kinda ridiculous. He's a weenie, and you can probably beat him up, but he WON'T STOP BELIEVING won't just lay down and roll over if a goal is at stake.

However, Xavarian, despite feeling this way about attaining his desires, doesn't actually feel that he, himself, is better than anyone in particular.  He actually considers himself to know  very little, that he can always learn from someone else, and he has no desire to take credit from anyone and claim it his own.  In fact, he's much more likely to give credit away, as it was only by another's direction, or another's influence, that he was able to find what he was looking for.   Xavarian is incredibly humble, and more often than not, if someone wants to 'take the glory' from him, he really feels nothing is lost on his behalf.  He's often amazed that anyone would even enjoy spending time with him.

He, as a person, is humble.  He is, however, very prideful about what he's doing, and will not tolerate anything getting in the way of that. If he has any say in the matter. Just put him in a headlock.. and a magic vacuum.

Does your character lean more towards the Sins or the Virtues?
... Apparently Virtues (which I honestly think is pretty weird, especially once you read through all that), though most can easily flop back and forth given the situation at hand.  A few likely won't change.  Everything else is a barely-skimming neutral.

Which Sin does your character most emulate?
Lust.  To Xavarian, what he's after is everything; it is growth, experience, what drives sentient life itself, and what will lead him to even more intriguing sorts of it.  It won't end, till it all ends, and till then, he'll keep on wanting.

Which Virtue does your character most emulate?
Diligence.  It goes hand in hand with his Lust, in that he is constantly working towards what he wants, and feels all paths lead there, it's just up to him to take in all he can with each twist of the road.  And, of course, to let nothing get in his way.

Which of these Sins or Virtues do you and/or your character believe they need to work on the most?
Pride, weirdly.  Mostly because, despite Xavarian's unstoppable will to do what he wants to do, he thinks very little of himself as a person.  He needs more confidence, to think that he is worth something, not just his endeavors, because if he can get that, maybe he can start getting how other people matter too, and that there's more to it all than just his goals.
