Yeah, as we all know the only people to hang out in the Quicksand are the worst roleplayers. Rolleyes

(*It's a joke)

Because it's a joke.

Has anyone from the community actually been caught erping in public? Aside from ERP Hovel back in 2.0 days. I think it's mostly confined to private rooms now with sexual advances made in public.

RE: New to roleplaying on ffxiv - Warren Castille - 03-20-2015

Besides the occasional mistell, I haven't seen much, if anything, on that regard.

RE: New to roleplaying on ffxiv - Coatleque - 03-20-2015

I hang around the Quicksand quite often. I've never seen anyone ERPing in public channels.

I hope you see the irony in this.

There's a silly anime called The Devil is a Part-Timer where Satan (from a highly trippy canon in its own right) ends up in "the real world" and works at MgRonald's. Yeah. Anyway, what makes the story is where he came from, even though he can't share it with the populace - Satan serving burgers, ahha! And then... he makes manager!

Granted, what also makes the story are the other characters from his world, the part where they're theoretically trying to get back to the place they came from and/or deciding whether or not they'd like to stay, and the part where he can hulk out in Satan-mode when he needs to. A roleplayer trying this kind of cross-dimensional thing probably isn't going to have the benefit of interactions with other characters from their previous world (unless they bring their own, which starts to move into weird) and really can't hulk out in PreviousDimension-mode without ruining ordinary folks' fun.

What I mean to say is there's an element to Valkyrie-working-at-a-fried-fish-stand-in-Eorzea that a player might find fun, but they'd have to find it fun all on their own, without anyone else's approval, without the benefit of anyone else being in on that part of the story, except maybe in a not-taking-oneself-seriously way. There's no real reason to remove that element of the fun, unless it starts getting in the way of a desire to be part of the community, which right off the bat it can obviously do.

RE: New to roleplaying on ffxiv - ArmachiA - 03-20-2015

I was doubtful anyone had been caught doing it, the roleplayers on FFXIV seem to be a lot more discreet than that.

(Though back in 2010, Ellion did catch three people ERPing in say launch day in 1.0)

But yeah, not seeing how erp is relevant.

RE: New to roleplaying on ffxiv - Edvyn - 03-20-2015

if you wanna stick to the norse mythology thingo you could make her a limsan, they're vaguely nordic

like, what if you played as a hyur which is basically a viking? you could quite easily make a spear-wielding viking chick and end up strongly resembling a valkyrie, valkyries are basically viking angels anyway

if you're intent on playing a healer, you could probably do the same thing but substitute spear with cane/book/whatever (kinda hard to get a valkyrie look on healing classes though)

you can quite easily use nordic culture without being part of their myths

RE: New to roleplaying on ffxiv - ArmachiA - 03-20-2015

I always assumed Highlanders were kind of Nordic anyway.

That or Scottish. I always see people giving them a Scottish accent. I think there's an NPC with a quest somewhere that did it as well which is what they draw on.

Thank you for the suggestion, its a really good idea. I do not think I be able to handle being the MC though, that is a lot of pressure!

Question. Is there some kind of NPC that is super spooky? Spooky backstory?

Also I generally really love the idea how the MC in Saya no Uta sees things. I could do something like that with the void? Not constantly seeing things disturbed but rarely and very subtle.
