Hi, I'm new here. So yeah, I'll get to some good stuff.
I started with Runescape back in the late 00's, tried WoW for a month (didn't like it, too confusing), and now I'm here (been playing XIV since PS3 beta back in 2013).
I have no RP experience but I'm open to trying new things. As they say, "don't knock it till you try it". And I believe that wholeheartedly.
My Characters name is Alicia Lizabeth Clarke, and she's a 22 year old Hyuran Midlander. Born in Hyrmstill, Black Shroud. She clocks in at 5' 2". I wrote down the rest for those of you interested, I can somehow copy that stuff here.
I heard about it...Uhhh, I googled "How to RP IN FFXIV" This was the first site to pop up. I've always wanted to RP but I haven't found anyone else into it.
I hear there are different "types" of RPers, and just...I dunno which one I belong to.
And finally, something about me...I've been gaming for 21 years now, since I was 4. 90% of that is RPGs.
I'd like to think myself an expert by this point. My first RPG was FFVII. And yeah...That's about all I got for hobby-like stuff for now.

I don't think there's much of an RP community presence on Exodus- so you may want to try looking at moving to Mateus. That's currently the only RP server open to transfers, at least until Balmung reopens. Best of luck!

Yeah, so far I've gathered that Balmung is the main RP server, but it's closed to transfers because it's jampacked. Mateus is the second best, and IS still accepting transfers, so that might be an option for you seeking out RP. I've heard that it's got a decent RP community thriving there, too.

There ARE other options!
The Town Square here on the forums has frequently been used for play-by-post RP (though it's kind of quieted down as of late, doesn't mean you couldn't spin something up!), and the RPC chat system has rooms dedicated for RP that are also being criminally under-utilized.
On top of that, people have had some degree of success RPing over Discord and/or Skype. And, if you really want to get fancy... you could technically put together a cross-world group and go into a dungeon or something similar with interested parties to do RP there!

BACKSTORY:
Born Alicia Lizabeth Clarke to a Gridania Hyur Man named Steve Clarke and a Doman Hyur Woman named Tsubana Oribe in Old Gridania 18 years prior to the Calamity, Alice was a happy, cheerful, normal lass living in Hyrstmill, her hometown. At 8 years old, her Aunt, unbeknowest to all involved, opened the Hyrstmill gates to let in the Ixal awaiting a slaughter of the Shroud Villages populace.
During the massacre, her father and older, twin brothers fell to the Ixal. Tsubana drove off the killer birdpeoples, only to discover her husband and twin sons were dead. She was injured in repelling the Ixal. Her husband and sons were protecting Alice. Her Aunt was shortly found and questioned, whereupon the Padjali dispatched sentenced her to exile by will of the Elementals.
Heartbroken, Alice could do aught but await her mothers possible return. Her mothers wounds were grievous indeed, but nothing the Conjurers of Stillglade Fane couldn't fix, she was assured. Her mother did return, but only now with a cane and a noticeable limp, her mother could no longer run. Spurned by her mothers well being, she started to help her mother whenever possible, doing laundry and cleaning dishes.
A few weeks after, she decided to never let the weak get hurt by the strong, and thus with a kiss and hug to her mother, set out to the Sultansworn, in Ul'dah, to become a Paladin. Her objective was simple, to become a Paladin, free or no. After 15 years of rigorous training and near deaths, she returned in plate and cloth of white and blue, a Paladin at last, blessed by her Mentor, Jenlys.
A month after return, the Ixal returned, but were slain by Alice one by one. Avenged, she felt her deceased family was. And thus she stayed, protecting Hyrstmill since. An interesting episode of that 15 year period was the infatuation of a Duskwight Elezen, Edelouix of Ishgard in the last two years of her tenure. She was like a love struck puppy following him around and doting on him when he was not looking. Many a whisper were told about how they were lovers, a claim neither would admit but was common knowledge to be true.

The Year 1558 of the Sixth Astral Era was only 19~20 years ago from the present date. So this would kind of throw some of your characters ages off quite a bit.
The Calamity occurred towards the end of the Year 1572 6AE, 5~6 years ago from the present date. If you were wanting your character to be 18 at the time of the Calamity, they would've been born in the Year 1554 6AE, making the Ixali attack on Hyrstmill occur in 1562, 8 years later.
The start of ARR occurred during the 5th Year of the Seventh Umbral Era (5 years after 1572), though after Operation Archon the Grand Company leaders announced an "official" end to the Seventh Umbral Era, and we enter into the 1st Year of the Seventh Astral Era (still 5 years post-1572 Calamity). Your character would be 23-going-on-24 years old, which lines up pretty well with your timeline with no major adjustments.
Now, officially, Stormblood lore dates events in 4.0 as occurring just 1 year after the death of Solus zos Galvus in the 1st Year of the 7th Astral Era and the arrival of the Doman refugees. Putting the date roughly at the 2nd Year of the Seventh Astral Era (6ish years post-Calamity). Aging your character to about 24. Some roleplayers choose to ignore this and instead RP real time passage, but officially not that much time has passed since ARR. You're of course free to continue aging your character with real time passage if you so desire!
