New to Game. Looking for Good Server - Gryphon762 - 04-16-2017
Hello. My friend and I are about to start playing for the first time and are looking for a good RP community. Now, I keep seeing Balmung pop up as the best RP server, but I also keep seeing how much of a pain it is to get on there. Is there a good alternative server out there?

You could try Gilgamesh, but as I understand it, it's just as hard to get into. I've heard of RP enclaves on Faerie and Siren, but I have never been to either server so I could not confirm that for you.

Lately Mateus has been getting a lot of attention by RPers. I know there are also smaller communities on Faeri, Framfrit, Jenova, and Siren.
You can find non-Balmung Linkshells advertised on the RPC here.
Non-Balmung Free Companies can be found here.
Gilgamesh, as I've heard, does still have RP going on it, but it's a smaller community and also pretty hard to join because the server is often locked for new characters as well.

But personally, if you're after an established and consistently active community, especially one that operates at most hours of the day, then my recommendation is to count on paying the transfer fee into Balmung. (Yes, paying for a transfer will let you circumvent the character creation limitation, despite what the documentation says. You can bring a full load of 8 characters for one fee.) Think of it like a cover fee for a night club (that then applies for every single night for as long as you play the game), or like the RP DLC.

It's $18 to get onto Balmung- no catches or anything else. It's just a server transfer. It is certainly more time efficient and cheaper than wasting the time trying to brute-force your way in after maintenance windows. In any case, Balmung is the place to be when it comes to RP- doubly so if that's what you're primarily after!
