Now that Osric got me thinking about The Wire, I realized that Dogberry is a similar character to Dennis "Cutty" Wise.

A man trying to get over his past, ends up backsliding for a while because he feels its his only option, then takes on an enterprise to lift himself and others up. With Dogberry it's his ship, with Cutty it's his boxing school.
